Singing To Flowers
End of October
and a warm sun
revives summer illusions
that should dry up
with the autumn leaves
I slide through the hordes
of Fifth Avenue
disappearing inside
the stifling golds
of my trench-coat
I bought a purple orchid
for the fire escape
I look at it while sitting
before my rusty typewriter
I reckon
when you have no-one to love
you start singing to flowers
